About Me

Hi there! My name is Avra Saslow! I have been born and raised in Durango and I love to mountain bike, ski, kayak, and enjoy the outdoors. I think of myself as easy-going, energetic, ambitious, confident, sassy, daring, and creative. I am attending a new(ish) charter school called Animas High School. We pride ourselves in being challenging, relevant, and connected. We have an engaging education, rigorous academics, a culture of excellence, and strong student-faculty relationships. All of our learning is project based. I can relate and apply my learning to my real life. I love my school, and I hope you can see how much I am learning with this digital portfolio. Why Animas High School?

I picked Animas High School for many reasons. One of the reasons is that the kids and adults here are very close. Since everyone is so close, there is barely any drama and you have lots of really close friends. There is also a very good teacher-student relationship. You soon view your teachers as colleagues and friends. It is easy to talk to them, even if it is not about school. They care about you and your education and really want to be at school teaching.  The main reason that I picked Animas High School was because of the project based learning. I like things that are really relevant; that show application in the real world. I have ownership in my learning and education, and I take pride in that. Also, at Animas what you say actually counts. They don't just leave all of the decisions up to the adults; they actually ASK the students what they want. I love Animas High School, and I feel like I have chosen a school that makes me step out of my comfort zone to experience great opportunities, and I now love and care about my education.
